How it Feels, 1:57’’
To those that do not live in large cities or particularly pedestrian-friendly urban spaces, it is important to know that the ticking sound in the video How it Feels is the sound made by a pedestrian crosswalk signal that indicates whether it is safe or unsafe to cross the road. This function is designed for the visually impaired and is an essential tool in daily navigation. Ranto’s black screen and audio track puts the viewer in the position of the visually impaired, and forces the question “How it feels?” as a wake up call to the privileges that come with ability.
The work was projected at HOT STEAM, Cambridge Community Television production, EPISODE 05 - CROWD CONTROL, 2020
